After Jesus rose from the dead on Easter Sunday, He appeared to His disciples and many others over 40 days. He talked to them, encouraged them, and taught them more about God’s kingdom. He also told them to wait in Jerusalem for a special gift—the Holy Spirit. Then, Jesus went back up to Heaven in an event called the Ascension. Ten days later, on the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came to the disciples in a powerful way, filling them with courage and helping them speak in many languages. This marked the beginning of the Christian Church.
