The Ordinary Mission Field—Family - Modern
Ephesians 5:15-6:4
- Rev. Dr. Bob Fuller
- October 19, 2025
Rev. Dr. Bob Fuller preached from Ephesians 5:15–6:9 about how God designed the family as both a gift and a means of discipleship. He explained that marriage and family are not accidents of culture but systems created by God to shape us into His likeness. Fuller acknowledged the discomfort many feel around words like “submission,” but clarified that Paul’s teaching calls for mutual submission rooted in reverence for Christ, not domination or superiority. Husbands are to love their wives as Christ loved the church—with humility, sacrifice, and grace—while wives and children learn obedience and respect as acts of faith toward God.
He emphasized that family life is where discipleship is lived out daily, not just in church, teaching us submission, sacrifice, and the practice of grace. Parents are called to model faith for their children, showing them what Christlike love looks like through forgiveness and steadfast commitment. Fuller reminded the congregation that every home is meant to reflect the love of Jesus, offering the world a living picture of His grace. In closing, he prayed that our relationships would show God’s love and help shape our families into communities of faith and hope.
