The Holy Spirit: Renewing the Ordinary - Modern
2 Corinthians 5:16-19
- Rev. Dr. Joe Moore
- September 7, 2025
In this sermon, Rev. Dr. Joe Moore reflects on how the Holy Spirit empowers and renews our ordinary lives, transforming us into instruments of God’s grace and reconciliation. Using 2 Corinthians 5:16–19, he highlights three key themes: becoming a new creation, being reconciled to God, and embracing the ministry of reconciliation. Dr. Moore emphasizes that this transformation begins with Christ’s death and resurrection, and continues through the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit in each season of our lives. He challenges listeners not to view others “according to the flesh,” but to see them as God does—through the lens of grace and potential renewal. Personal growth in Christ is a continual journey, not a one-time event, requiring daily surrender to the Spirit’s guidance. Ultimately, he calls believers to be ambassadors of Christ, allowing the Spirit to work through them in ordinary settings to accomplish extraordinary kingdom purposes. As we come to the communion table, he invites each person to consider how the Spirit may be calling them to be made new today.
