The Declaration - It is Good!

Genesis 1:24-31

  • Rev. Dr. Bob Fuller

In this sermon, Rev. Dr. Bob Fuller reflects on the sacredness of ordinary life and how God reveals His glory through everyday moments in creation. Using an encounter with a dove, a hawk, and his cat in his backyard, Fuller illustrates how even the smallest natural dramas can point us to God’s intentional design. He draws from Genesis 1 to emphasize that creation is not accidental but good, purposeful, and meant to glorify God. Fuller warns against two spiritual pitfalls: disrespecting creation and idolizing it, both of which distort its divine purpose. He highlights that humans, made in God’s image, are called to glorify and enjoy God in both the extraordinary and the mundane. Citing examples from Job, Romans, and the teachings of Jesus, Fuller underscores God’s ongoing care for all creation, especially humanity. He also shares a moving testimony from teachers at the Hunt School, who experienced God’s provision during recent flood relief efforts. Ultimately, he calls believers to recognize God's presence and love in both the beauty and brokenness of the world. The sermon encourages living a "sacramental life" — one that glorifies God through attention, gratitude, and faithfulness in the ordinary.
