The Community of the Cross - Modern
- Rev. Dr. Joe Moore
- March 1, 2026
In this Communion message, Rev. Dr. Joe Moore reflects on the devotion of the early church in Acts 2 and calls the congregation to live a “cross-shaped life.” He reminds us that the first believers were not casually interested in Jesus but were fully devoted to the apostles’ teaching, to fellowship, and to prayer because Christ’s death and resurrection were still fresh in their hearts. Using the example of his well-known loyalty to the Philadelphia Eagles, he challenges us to consider whether our devotion to Jesus is just as visible and sincere. A cross-shaped life, he explains, means being crucified with Christ, allowing Him to live through us, and rooting our faith in covenant rather than convenience. As we journey through Lent toward Easter, he encourages us not simply to give something up, but to take on practices that strengthen our relationship with Christ. Communion reminds us that our faith is grounded in Jesus’ broken body and shed blood, the foundation of our forgiveness and new life. Through renewed devotion and remembrance, we are invited to grow deeper in faith and stronger together as His people.
