The Community of Jesus: Love One Another
- Kevin Germer
- January 4, 2026
In this sermon, Rev. Kevin Germer centers the Christian life on Jesus’ new commandment in John 13 to love one another as He has loved us. He explains that this love is not a self-improvement project or a New Year’s resolution we attempt alone, but a shared life formed within Christian community. Jesus’ love is personal, moving toward real people with attention and care; it is costly, willing to give and absorb hurt; and it is steadfast, remaining faithful even when others fail. Jesus teaches that love for one another is the primary way the world will recognize His disciples, more than beliefs, achievements, or public witness. This calling invites the church to be a visible, embodied sign of the gospel through patience, forgiveness, and hospitality. Ultimately, our love for one another flows from first being deeply loved by Christ, a love we did not earn and cannot lose.
