Subtle Indoctrination

Daniel 1:3-8

  • Rev. Dr. Paul Kacsur
  • September 28, 2025

Rev. Dr. Paul Kacsur preached from Daniel 1, showing how Daniel and his friends faced pressure to conform to Babylonian culture but chose to remain faithful to God. King Nebuchadnezzar tried to indoctrinate them by changing their names, feeding them food offered to idols, and teaching them pagan ways. Dr. Kacsur warned that the same subtle pressures exist today, seeking to conform, compromise, and ultimately cause Christians to capitulate to the world’s values. He reminded us that true discipleship means resisting these pressures and daring to stand firm, even when it is unpopular or costly. Our culture may tolerate everything except the exclusive claim of Jesus Christ as the only way, but we must hold fast to His name. Like Daniel, believers are called to live with integrity, set apart from idolatry, covetousness, and compromise. The sermon closed with a prayer from John Calvin, asking God to strengthen us in endurance, purity, and contentment until we are fully refreshed in His presence.
