Serve One Another - Modern
- Rev. Kevin Germer
- January 11, 2026
Rev. Kevin Germer preached from John 13, showing that Jesus not only commands love but gives it a clear shape through humble service. On the night before the cross, Jesus—fully secure in His authority—stoops to wash His disciples’ feet, revealing that true greatness in God’s kingdom is found in going low. This act shows that Christian love is not abstract or sentimental but personal, attentive, and willing to meet real needs. Peter’s resistance reminds us how difficult it can be to receive grace, yet Jesus insists that being served by Him is essential to belonging to Him. The community Jesus forms is not made up of people who are already “clean,” but of those who humbly admit their need and serve one another in response to His love. Followers of Christ are called to notice overlooked needs, let go of status, and practice ordinary, unglamorous acts of service. In washing feet, Jesus reveals both how His people are to live and the very heart of God, who stoops in love to restore and renew.
