Practicing Righteousness

1 John 3:1-10

  • Rev. Dr. John Kaiser
  • July 13, 2025

This sermon, based on 1 John 3:1–10, emphasizes the profound love of God in calling believers His children and the responsibility that comes with that identity. Rev. Dr. Kaiser stresses that Jesus appeared both to take away sin and to destroy the works of the devil, and that true children of God must not make a habitual practice of sin. Sin is described as lawlessness—a violation of God’s holy standard—and its effects are holistic, impacting body, mind, and spirit. Through Christ and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, believers are called to practice righteousness, not to earn salvation, but as a response to it. He acknowledges the ongoing struggle with sin in the Christian life, encouraging believers not to lose hope, but to confess, repent, and support one another in community. Ultimately, the message is one of hope and transformation: that through Christ, we can become more like Him while awaiting His return.
