On the Road to Emmaus - Modern
The Gospel According to Luke Luke 24:13-35
- Whit Anderson
- April 12, 2026
This sermon focuses on how hope is lost and how it is restored through Jesus, using the story of the road to Emmaus. The two disciples began their journey discouraged and confused, but ended it filled with joy and purpose after encountering Christ. The pastor explains that true hope is not wishful thinking, but a confident expectation based on what Jesus has done through His death and resurrection. Jesus meets people in their struggles, walking alongside them and gently guiding them back to truth. Their hope was restored as Jesus opened the Scriptures and revealed that His suffering and resurrection were part of God’s plan. When they finally recognized Him, everything changed, and they rushed back to share the good news. The sermon reminds us that because Jesus lives, our sins are forgiven, our lives have purpose, and we can trust God even in difficult times. It calls us to live with hope, keep trusting Christ, and share that hope with others.
