If Love is the Answer, What is the Question?

Dr. Nijay K. Gupta explores the theme “If love is the answer, what is the question?” by addressing the church’s deep struggle with misdirected love. Drawing from 1 Corinthians 16, he shows that Paul frames the Christian life around love for Christ, love in action, and love rooted in grace. Using insights from Saint Augustine, Gupta explains that human restlessness comes from loving the wrong things in the wrong order, since we were created by love, through love, and for love. He introduces the image of the “safe and the sprinkler” to show that Christ alone belongs at the center of our hearts, while love is meant to flow outward generously to others. True Christian love, he argues, is neither blind acceptance nor cold doctrine, but rightly ordered love grounded in Christ. By drawing from the deep affections of Jesus, believers are empowered to love neighbors, strangers, and even enemies. In a restless and divided world, the gospel calls us to keep Christ central and let all we do be done in love.
