Going and Coming
The Acts of the Apostles Acts 1:6-11
- Rev. Dr. Bob Fuller
- May 17, 2026
Rev. Dr. Bob Fuller reflected on the Ascension of Jesus from Acts 1 and explained that the story is not mainly about Jesus leaving earth, but about His exaltation as King and Lord. He described the Ascension as Christ’s coronation, where Jesus was lifted into the glory of God and enthroned with all authority in heaven and on earth. The sermon emphasized that Jesus is not only our Savior and friend, but also our Lord, worthy of worship and obedience. Dr. Fuller also highlighted Jesus’ promise of the Holy Spirit, who comforts, guides, strengthens, and empowers believers to be witnesses for Christ in the world. He reminded the church of the promise of the Second Coming, encouraging believers to trust that Jesus will return to make all things right and restore creation. The disciples were told to wait for God’s leading before going out in mission, teaching us that faithful waiting is not weakness but trust-filled preparation. The sermon closed with a call for Christians to worship boldly, wait expectantly, and witness courageously as people who believe that Jesus reigns now and will come again.
