Forgive One Another

The Gospel According to John John 20:19-23

  • January 25, 2026

Whit Anderson teaches that forgiveness is at the heart of the Christian life because Jesus gives it to us and calls us to give it to others. In John 20, Jesus meets His fearful disciples with peace and grace, showing that He comes to restore, not condemn. The sermon explains that while we want forgiveness for ourselves, we often struggle to forgive those who hurt us. Using the parable of the unforgiving servant, Whit reminds us that God has forgiven us a great debt, and this should shape how we treat others.

He says forgiveness starts by honestly facing the hurt, then asking God for compassion, and choosing to release the debt. True forgiveness does not ignore wrong but responds with grace. In the end, believers are called to be known as people who forgive, reflecting the love they have received from Jesus.
