Encourage and Build One Another Up - Modern
- Rev. Kevin Germer
- February 15, 2026
In this sermon on Gospel of John 14 and 16, Rev. Kevin Germer speaks about the “caves” we all face—seasons of grief, fear, shame, or loneliness where we cannot see a way out. Jesus does not deny that these dark places exist; He plainly says, “In this world you will have tribulation.” Rather than minimizing our pain, Jesus grounds His encouragement in reality, assuring us that troubled hearts are not a sign of weak faith. He then holds out a promise: in His Father’s house are many rooms, and there is a home prepared for each of us—a place of belonging where we are not forgotten. Most powerfully, Jesus anchors our hope in His own presence, declaring that He has overcome the world. Through His suffering, death, and resurrection, He entered the deepest cave so that no place of darkness would ever be God-forsaken again. The church, therefore, is called to be a community of true encouragement—not offering quick fixes, but sitting with one another in the cave and helping each other cling to Christ, who is with us even there.
