Do You Love Me? - Modern

The Gospel According to John John 21:15-19

  • Whit Anderson
  • May 10, 2026

Whit Anderson preached from John 21, focusing on Peter’s failure, restoration, and renewed calling after denying Jesus. He explained that failure is often one of life’s greatest teachers, and Peter’s story reminds believers that failure does not disqualify them from God’s love or purpose. Jesus lovingly confronted Peter by asking three times, “Do you love me?” not to shame him, but to restore him and strengthen his faith. Whit emphasized that our confidence in following Jesus does not come from perfect behavior or feelings, but from trusting in the deep love and grace of Christ. He reminded the congregation that following Jesus can be costly and require sacrifice, but the joy, peace, and purpose found in Christ far outweigh anything the world offers. The sermon also challenged listeners to “feed the sheep” by encouraging, serving, praying for, and caring for others in practical ways. In the end, Whit encouraged the church to remember that God restores broken people, gives them purpose, and calls them to follow Jesus faithfully while helping others grow in faith.
