Beholding the Face of Christ

1 John 3:1-10

  • Rev. Scott Simpson
  • July 13, 2025

This sermon, based on 1 John 3:1–10, centers on the powerful truth that Christians are already children of God—not in the future, but right now—because of God’s miraculous love and adoption. Rev. Simpson emphasizes that being a child of God is a legal standing and relational position received through faith in Christ, not something we earn or try to become. This identity gives believers incredible access to God, the cancellation of spiritual debts, and the promise of being fully transformed in the future when we see Christ face to face. The sermon highlights the “beatific vision,” the ultimate fulfillment of seeing Jesus as He is, which will change us completely and even affect all of creation. As Christians fix their eyes on this promise, they are gradually purified and shaped into Christ’s likeness. He uses personal stories and vivid analogies, including adoption and Star Wars, to convey the depth of God’s unwavering love. In closing, the message calls listeners to build their lives around this vision, living in the light and hope of their true identity.
