Be One: Unity in the Love of the Father and the Son - Modern
- Rev. Kevin Germer
- February 1, 2026
Rev. Kevin Germer reflects on Jesus’ prayer for unity in John 17, emphasizing that on the night before the cross, Jesus prayed not for success or influence, but for His future followers to be one. This unity is not shallow politeness or forced sameness, but a deep, relational oneness rooted in sharing the life and love of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Jesus desires a community centered on Christ rather than politics, preferences, or comfort, bringing together people who would not naturally choose one another. Such unity matters because it is one of the primary ways the world comes to believe the truth and power of the gospel. Rev. Germer reminds the congregation that unity is not something we achieve by effort, but a gift we receive as we abide in God’s love together. From that secure love, humility, patience, forgiveness, and generosity can grow. The sermon closes by inviting believers to receive Christ at the table, recognize one another as family, and faithfully practice the unity Jesus has already given.
