Abide in My Love: Remain With One Another - Modern

  • Rev. Kevin Germer
  • January 18, 2026

Rev. Kevin Germer reflects on Jesus’ invitation in John 15 to “abide” in His love, using the image of interconnected trees in a forest to show how life is sustained through shared roots rather than individual strength. Jesus reveals that we are loved with the same love the Father has for the Son, a gift that comes before any command or effort on our part. Abiding is not about trying harder, but about remaining rooted in that love through friendship with Christ—receiving His presence and returning to it again and again. This abiding love naturally flows outward as we share love with others, especially when it is difficult or costly. Jesus teaches that obedience to His command to love is not transactional, but a way of living fully within His love. When we receive and share Christ’s love together, the community is sustained, joy is made complete, and no one is left to wither alone.
