Two-Thirds of God is Go!

Jeremiah 29:4-7

In this sermon, Pastor Scott Simpson emphasizes that discipleship is not confined to the church but is lived out in the ordinary rhythms of daily life. Using the metaphor from Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, he contrasts passive observation with active engagement, urging believers to live fully involved lives. He reflects on Jeremiah 29, where God commands exiled Israelites to build, plant, marry, and pray for their city—highlighting that God's work continues in exile, in the ordinary. Pastor Simpson connects this to Jesus’s Great Commission in Matthew, reminding the congregation that "two-thirds of God is go," and that discipleship requires action, not perfection. He stresses that worship is not an escape from the world but a launching pad into it, calling believers to love Christ, love one another, and love their city. Doubt, he argues, is not a disqualifier for discipleship but often a sign that the calling is real and requires trust in God. Ultimately, the message is clear: God uses ordinary, flawed people to do extraordinary things, and our question should always be, “Can I help?” Pastor Simpson concludes by reminding the church that Christ goes with them as they go into the world to make disciples.
