First Presbyterian Church San Antonio (FPC) has a rich and proud history of affirming women in ministry and leadership, with women serving faithfully in all areas of the church, including as pastors, elders, and deacons. This legacy reflects our commitment to using the gifts of all God’s people for His glory and the flourishing of the church. However, in today’s cultural and theological climate, the question arises: Do we know scripture well enough to articulate and defend the biblical basis for women in ministry and leadership?

The goal of this study is to engage deeply with Scripture, applying sound hermeneutical principles to examine its historical, cultural, and theological contexts. We will explore how the Bible affirms women in ministry and leadership, address passages that have historically been viewed as restrictive, and study the lives of notable women in the early and later church. By tracing how women have faithfully served throughout Christian history, we can strengthen our own commitment to living out God’s calling in our time.

At FPC, we celebrate the gifts God has given to all believers, regardless of gender. This study invites us to approach the topic with humility, grace, and a willingness to be shaped by God’s truth. Together, we seek to embrace God’s calling for both men and women to reflect Christ’s redemptive work by serving the church in love, unity, and faithfulness.
